Making Connections

Festival organisers met with musicians, and gallery owners chatted to painters and sculptors at Breckland Council’s first ever arts social event, held at Watton Sports Centre.

The evening brought together local artists, arts organisations, youth workers and other support services in an informal setting, giving artists the opportunity to promote their work, and encouraging organisations such as schools and youth services to consider how they might involve the arts in their work.

Watton Festival, Creative Arts East and Community Music East had stands at the event, as well as local artists displaying their work. Breckland Council provided information and resources on funding, training and arts related work and local band, Mulberry Hawk, provided the entertainment throughout the night.

Breckland Council Executive member for Communities, Theresa Hewett said;

“Not only was the uptake fantastic, with almost 50 people attending, but we also received many positive comments on the night. Acting on this excellent feedback, plans are already underway for a second social arts event in March next year”

Local artist Sarah Caputo spoke of the evening as, “a quality social event as well as an opportunity to network and renew old contacts”.

If you would be interested in attending the next arts social event in March or you would like a stand to promote your work, please register your interest with Sam Dawson – Arts Development Officer on 01362 656870 or email sam.dawson@breckland.gov.uk and further details will be provided nearer the time.
