Mattishall will be dreaming of a green Christmas
Mattishall residents will be getting a green gift this Christmas thanks to Breckland Council offering free home energy checks and free or subsidised improvement works at a special event on 1 December.
The Green Christmas event at Mattishall will launch Breckland Council’s wider Green Village Project which aims to increase the energy efficiency of Breckland homes and save residents money. Mattishall will be the first village to benefit but in the longer term the scheme will be offered to other villages across the district.
All Mattishall residents who come along to the event will be able to sign up for a free home energy check and many will be eligible to get any recommended improvement works carried out for free – or at a subsidised rate. Money that would normally be paid to installers as a referral fee will then be returned to Breckland Council to plough into a special pot to help pay for more green initiatives in the village.
The Green Christmas event will be held at Mattishall Primary School from 3pm to 6.30pm and will include:
• The chance to sign up for a free home energy check
• Advice from Breckland Council, Energy Saving Trust, Eastern Carbon Reduction Initiative, and Anglian Insulations
• Information on how to get improvement works carried out for free – or at a subsidised rate
• A competition with a 1st prize of up to £250 towards works recommended by the energy check (terms and conditions apply)
• The chance to pledge your support and become a Green Village Champion to help spread the word to other households
• Spike the hedgehog, spreading festive cheer with gifts for the children between 3pm and 4pm
• Recycled craft activities for children
• Seasonal refreshments
Cllr Kay Fisher, Executive Member for Environmental Well Being, commented: “Breckland Council wants to make our residents’ homes warmer and cheaper to run. We’ve partnered up with other agencies to offer free home energy checks and to give advice on lifestyle changes that will reduce the amount of energy used and save people money. We know that every penny counts this Christmas.”
