£10,000 for young people in Breckland

Breckland Youth Council has been given £10,000 to spend by the end of January 2010 on local youth projects. All the project has to do is meet the criteria: stronger & safer communities, improving health & well being, improving access to services or environmental sustainability. The project could be anything from outdoor park play equipment, purchasing trees for planting to new equipment for an existing group.

Stuart Green, from the Breckland Youth council said,

“We have got tight deadlines to meet so once you’ve obtained your application form, fill it in and send it back as soon as you can for your chance to get up to £10,000 for your project.”

After 12th January 2010, a shortlist will be drawn up and the projects chosen will have the chance to ‘sell’ their ideas to a panel of Youth Councillors at a presentation evening. The winning projects will be announced on 28th January. Remember as long as your project fulfils the criteria you can apply for anything from £50 up to a massive £10,000.

Go to Breckland Council’s website: www.breckland.gov.uk for an application form and further information or contact Caroline Cox for further help, email: caroline.cox@breckland.gov.uk or call 01362 656870.

Don’t delay, It could be your project that gets the £10,000!

Executive Member for Communities and Benefits, Theresa Hewett said,
“I’d like to congratulate the Youth Council at Breckland Council who have been instrumental in helping to gain this central government funding in the Breckland area. They are very keen to help empower the young people in Breckland to deliver projects that will benefit their communities.”

The funding of £10,000 is part of The Breckland Partnership’s (LSP) successful bid for £25,000 towards participatory budgeting. This is where local people decide how to spend public money.

Breckland’s Youth Council will be seeking applications from school groups, youth clubs and youth organisations.
